Ladder
A tennis ladder is a simple system for ranking tennis players in a certain group. Each player is assigned to a position within a ladder. These positions determine who plays that week and in which position.
The ladder helps facilitate matches based on who wins and loses. As players win, they move up the ladder. Winning players take the place of their higher ranked opponents. Please see our detailed rules here (link the ladder rules).
The preliminary ladder will be set on June 6th, and the ladder will be confirmed (based on practice play) on June 13th. Please see the bulletin board outside the tennis office to find your place. If your name is not on the list, please see a coach and they will give you more detail.
The ladder will be available via the Remind App.
Ladder Rules can be found here.
Uniform
Players are welcome to wear any dark shorts (or skirt) and a blue top that is comfortable for match play.
***Please note it is very important that the shorts or bottoms worn have pockets for the extra tennis balls.***
No official team shirt will be provided. However, if you would like to “up your game” on style, feel free to visit the team store here: Beachwood Tennis 2026 | Bloomfield Sports
Volunteer Opportunities
While the tennis team doesn’t require mandatory volunteer shifts, we hope that parents are generous with their time. Please email cararuthenberg@gmail.com if you are able to volunteer in any capacity. We are looking for parents to assist with matches, help coordinate tennis and pickleball mixers and update the communication board. Thank you for giving back to our racquet community!
Communication
Coaches will be using the Remind App to communicate with the tennis families. To join the Remind, please send a text to 81010 with this message: @2026bw or download the app. *** The app is preferred***
Tennis Team FAQs:
Is my child on the A or B team?
Team placement is based on your child’s position on the ladder. The “A” team consists of the top 4 players in each age group. Everyone else is placed on the “B” team. If your child is not in the top 4, they can work their way up to the “A” team as the summer progresses (see ladder rules for details).
What level should my child be to sign up for the team?
Your child should have some lesson experience, be able to serve, and maintain rallies in order to play on the “B” team. If you’re unsure, feel free to reach out. We can talk over the phone or possibly set up an evaluation.
Can my child sign up for the team if they can’t do matches?
Yes! While we encourage all players to participate in matches for the experience, we understand that schedules or comfort levels may vary. Your child is still welcome to join the team even if they don’t play in matches.
If my child is not in the top 4 in their age group, can they still play in “A” matches?
The top four players do get priority for “A” matches. However, due to occasional absences, we go down the ladder to fill spots, which gives other players opportunities to participate in “A” matches.
Are there makeups for team practices?
No, there are no makeups for team practices.
